My running career started when I joined the New Plymouth Boys' High School cross country team and Egmont Athletics. I began working with a coach and focused my attention on being the best runner I could be. After a string of second-place finishes at New Zealand Secondary School championship events, I finally struck gold in my final year in cross country and on the track. I took this momentum into my first year at the Auckland University of Technology.
A successful 2013 was backed up with a tear in my peroneal tendon that sidelined me for most of 2014. Thankfully, I bounced back in 2015 and secured myself a scholarship to Northern Arizona University in the United States.
I experienced a significant progression in my performances while training at 7,000ft in Flagstaff, Arizona, highlighted by three NCAA team titles and a runner-up finish at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
In 2018, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice. My college performances opened the door for me to run professionally for HOKA Northern Arizona Elite.
I had some solid performances during my six years with the team, but struggled a lot with injuries.
“Running Up the Mountain,” a book I co-authored with Ron Mann, was published in 2023.
At the end of 2024, I moved back to my hometown of New Plymouth, New Zealand.
